Quickstart building a web application (Mobile touch)

The DataFlex framework is a complete, integrated, skeletal structure of a business application. Its resources include database connectivity, a business rules repository, data-aware user interface controls and more for web, mobile and Windows environments. Just one framework allows developers to be more efficient and to write less code so they can build and maintain more applications faster at a higher "business" level. This Course shows how to build a business application (Mobile/Touch) with the DataFlex Framework.

Creating the workspace

The DataFlex Studio operates within a workspace. A workspace defines the areas where your source files reside. The workspace is the area where you build your projects. Projects are built by assembling components into a single file. The components will use classes that are known to the workspace. These classes can be defined within the workspace, within libraries used by the workspace, and within the System Library. This lesson shows the general steps to create a workspace.

Defining the database

The database consists of multiple tables that are related to each other. This lesson shows how to create the tables. These tables will be used throughout the complete course.

Configuring the data dictionary

The data dictionary contains the business rules of the application. The business rules are the central point of the application. This lesson shows how to configure the data dictionaries per table.

Create a web project

A mobile web application can be used to provide web services using SOAP, or provide services to Web Application Framework applications running in a browser. Web Application projects are designed to host Web Views, Web Modal Dialogs, Web Browser Objects (WBO) and / or Web Server Objects (WSO). This lesson shows how to create a Mobile Web Project.

Create a Person Zoom View

The drill down model works with select views and zoom views. A zoom view shows a single record and a select view shows a list of records. This lesson shows how to create a zoom view.

Create a Person Select View

To get into the zoom view (see previous lesson) a select view needs to be created. This lesson shows how to create the person select view.

Create a Media Zoom View

The previous lessons show the creation of a person zoom view and person select view. That offers the ability to add and maintain persons. This lesson shows how to create a media zoom view.

Create a Media Select View

The previous lesson showed how to create a media zoom view. This view doesn't work without the media select view. After creating the media select view it's possible to add and maintain media in the application. This lesson shows how to create the media select view using the wizard.

Filter the Media list

The previous lessons showed how to create select views for Person and Media. This lesson shows how to make a connection between de two, by making it possible to filter the Media list based on Persons.

Implement the dashboard

The Workspace Dashboard is designed to guide new developers in the right direction when learning to use the Studio, and to provide experienced developers with a quick way to gain insight into a workspace and its projects. This lesson shows how to implement the dashboard.

Testing the application

Testing the application is an important aspect of creating an application. This lesson shows how to test the application by running the application in the background and using the debugger and breakpoints.
